Thanks to MLK junior holiday we got to go for a day in the snow. We went to Leland, near the town of Strawberry and played around with Alexandre, who had never been in the snow before. We did not ski, maybe next time. We made little snow people, went down a small slope with a plastic sleigh, and took a hike in the woods. The drive was long but it was a beautiful day.
A lot of the children and families there were Hispanic. Not the kind of crowd you expect to find in the snow. It tells you something about demographics. We all had fun. I’m sure Mr. King would have approved.
Yesterday, when I picked A. up from my mom’s house, I asked him. “A donde vamos?” (were are we going). The usual answer is “papa” (to see dady) or “casa” (home) but this time he said “neige” (snow) and “guantes” (gloves). The snow made an impression in our 19 and ½ months-old mind. We are sure to go again soon.
